Kitchen Repair And Upgrades

The kitchen is often thought of as the heart of the home; so you’ll want to make sure your heart is healthy and functioning properly. The kitchen is one area of the house that has several components to it and many things can go wrong. Even simple repairs can be troubling if you don’t have the right tools. Alamo City Handymen will help you ensure your kitchen is up to date and safe. In this blog we’ll cover items such as:

Cabinets

Over time cabinet doors can become unaligned due to loose hinges and give your kitchen a sloppy appearance. You don’t want the door to fall off or close on you when reaching inside. We will tighten hinges or replace them if need be and make sure everything is straight. We can also paint or stain them if you want to change the look of your kitchen.

Drawers

While talking about cabinets you may find you or an older relative is having trouble reaching inside all the way to the back. That can be exceptionally difficult if you’re trying to reach in lower cabinets. Think about replacing the shelves with pull out drawers, lazy susan trays, and wire shelving installed inside the cabinet door. It’s easier to keep your heavy items or often used items in lower cabinets with pull out drawers. This way you’re not worried about using a step-stool to reach those items from higher cabinets.

Drawer Handles

You should consider changing the drawer handles while you're at it. Older hands or big hands have trouble grabbing hold of small, round pull knobs. We can change them out with wide D-shaped pulls. You’ll want to choose a handle that’s at least 3 inches long and has curved edges so you don’t get caught on them. There is a wide selection of D-shaped pulls that come in different colors, finishes, and designs so you can easily find something to match your decor. You can also remove the handles and install a touch door or drawer system. These drawers pop open by pushing against it. It makes it a lot easier if your hands are full.

Faucet Repair and Installation

Your kitchen sink will eventually develop a leak at the faucet, the handles, or worse yet the pipes under the sink. This may seem like a simple fix but without the right tools you stand the chance of getting frustrated or making matters worse. Alamo City Handymen can fix any leak or replace the fixture altogether. We can also replace old twist knobs with lever-style handles that are easier to operate or install motion-sensor faucets.

Light Fixtures

The kitchen is a dangerous place considering you’re working with sharp knives and fire. You want to make sure that it is a well lit room to ensure safety. We can handle your lighting needs from fixture installation to simply changing a light bulb. Older or mobility impaired people find it scary or impossible to climb a ladder to replace a bulb. Don’t worry, there is no job too small for us to handle. We’d rather take care of this than have you put yourself in danger. Also, you might need help if you have recessed lighting. You need to reach the ceiling to change those bulbs and we’re equipped with different sized ladders to reach any height inside your home.

Smoke Detectors

While we have our ladders out changing your light bulbs; why don’t we tend to your smoke detectors at the same time. Every house should have a smoke detector in the kitchen, bedrooms, hallways, living room, and stairway. We can install them for you or just put in new batteries if you already have them installed. According to the National Fire Protection Association “The risk of dying in reported home structure fires is 55 percent lower in homes with working smoke alarms than in homes with no alarms or none that worked”. So please let us install or test your smoke detectors!
